The Fire Museum of Maryland seeks to hire an Interpreter to work on Saturdays during open hours to demonstrate and interpret the Museum’s fire alarm telegraph system.
Job Description: Saturday Interpreter and Fire Alarm Operator assists the Duty Officer with the operation of the Museum on Saturdays. Assists with opening and closing the museum; talks and interacts with visitors about the collection and the history of firefighting.
Serves as security to protect the collection.
This position has a special focus on the interpretation of the Fire Alarm Office.
Due to technical aspects of the alarm office, the Interpreter will be given more than basic knowledge of Telegraph instruments.
Ensure Museum is kept clean and in an orderly fashion, including the oversite of two restrooms.
Other duties as assigned under the leadership of Duty Officer.
Work Schedule is alternate Saturdays, approximately 9:15 am-4:15p, although substitutes are available when arranged in advance. Five hours of paid training.
Pay Rate: $14/hour. Paychecks issued every two weeks.
Uniform shirts will be provided, as well as training. Reading of 3 reference books on alarm systems and fire history will be required. Minor repairs for alarm office may be required, as necessary.
