    The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is seeking a qualified individual to be responsible for supporting the Visitor Services Manager and Senior Technicians in the daily operations of the Visitor Services department at two living history museums, Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, which are open 363 days per year.

    Duties consist of overseeing day to day operations within Visitor Services, such as completing department specific opening/closing procedures, developing daily staffing rotations, submitting daily financial reports, preparing nightly deposits, and providing daily leadership for staff. Additionally, these positions are responsible for providing superior quality customer service while processing admission sales for individual visitors and groups along with providing general information about the museum exhibits and area attractions. Frequent weekend & holiday work is required and monthly schedules are posted well in advance.

    These positions are quasi full-time salaried positions that work 40 hours per week February 25th – December 24th.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must possess excellent communication and customer service skills, demonstrate experience in cash handling and high-volume sales, basic computer skills, and a willingness to learn quickly on-the-job. A driver’s license and the ability to work a 40 hour weekly schedule during a 7 day workweek are required.

    Required Qualifications:

    Experience with a computerized point-of-sale system and leadership skills, including the ability to motivate staff, are preferred.

Retired educators are encouraged to apply. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK A VARIABLE SCHEDULE BASED ON BOOKINGS and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. REQUIRED AVAILABILITY DURING SEPTEMBER- MAY. EXTENSIVE DAY TRAVEL IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. Must be available for training in Williamsburg, VA on select weekdays Aug 30-Sept 16 (overnight travel expenses provided). Position is based in Northern Virginia.

    This is a wage position with no state benefits.

    The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is seeking a qualified individual to provide contracts and programs support to the 2019 Commemoration Office. This position will be responsible for coordinating and managing all contracts, partnerships, and program agreements. This position is the primary contact for all contractors and is their liaison with contract managers, providing clerical and administrative support that includes tracking work progression/completion, delivery dates and payment to the contractors. This position schedules and coordinates contractor meetings, takes meeting notes, and maintains and coordinates commemoration records for retention.

    This is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.

    Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated background coordinating administrative activities and extensive experience coordinating contracts, programs, and partnerships. Excellent word processing, computer, record-keeping, and oral/written communication skills. Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to plan and organize, deal effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and the general public. Proficiency in MS Office Software.

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    High school graduate or equivalent required, college degree preferred.

    Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, a historic site of the Morris County Park Commission, located in Morristown, NJ, seeks a full-time Historic Farmer for this State and National Register Historic Site.  This newly created position will work under the supervision of the Superintendent of Historic Sites Maintenance and the Farm Foreman, assisting with the implementation of daily operations at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, including the care of domesticated animals, planting and maintaining farm crops, and daily historic interpretation as assigned.

    Essential Functions of the position include:

    • Carrying out assignments on the farm as directed.
    • Working with and caring for domesticated animals in a historic farm setting.
    • Use of period and modern implements associated with the successful culture of field crops, small fruits, orchards, vegetables, herbs and ornamental plants from harvesting through harvest, including ploughing, harrowing, planting, cultivating, fertilizing, liming, spraying, pruning and harvesting.
    • Performing routine maintenance on farm structures, equipment and systems compromising Fosterfields, using both period and modern practices as required.
    • Restoring and maintaining period farm machinery and implements associated with the historic farm program.
    • Cutting grass, using a tractor, riding mower, scythes, etc. and pruning/trimming trees.

    Additionally, the chosen candidate will cooperate with the interpretive programming associated with the historic farm, provide pertinent commentary to the public about the historic farm, and wear suitable period costuming when the farm is open to the public.  The candidate will secure a pesticide license, assist with maintaining records of inventory, and equipment maintenance as assigned, and perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications include knowledge of and the ability to work with and care for domesticated farm animals, the ability to work a flexible shift, including evenings and weekends as needed, and have knowledge of and the ability to use the tools, methods and materials used in farming and landscape maintenance.  The ideal candidate will also have the physical ability to perform the tasks of the position, including the ability to lift at least 50lbs.  The candidate must be a NJ resident within 1 year of accepting the position and have a valid NJ driver’s license.

    Experience training and working with draft horses or oxen is highly desired.

    General Description

    Teacher Naturalist assist in delivery of environmental education lessons for school students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and the general public. Lessons may include field studies, outreach, seasonal programs, summer camps, or other activities and may be held inside or outdoors in all weather conditions. Scheduling is highly flexible and can include weekdays and weekends throughout the year. There is no minimum hourly requirement and hours will vary seasonally. Salary is $10 an hour. Training is provided. This is a part time hourly position.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • ·         Teach environmental education lessons.
    • ·         Assist with program preparation and delivery of educational curriculum and activities, including summer camp.

The Statewide Engagement Coordinator will serve on project teams with responsibility of ensuring civic engagement is integrated into appropriate events and programs working collaboratively with program and marketing team members in the achievement of participation and visibility goals. The Statewide Engagement Coordinator will execute the post-secondary education strategy, which expands national awareness about the 2019 Commemoration themes and raises public understanding of Virginia’s role in the creation of the United States. The Statewide Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for achieving metrics associated with outreach goals and maintaining a tracking system to support it.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Must have knowledge of the objectives and operations of school systems and other educational institutions. Knowledge of American/Virginia history, skilled in oral and written communication, ability to develop, revise and implement outreach programs. Must have strong organizational skills, willingness to travel, ability to work in a fast paced environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    College degree in History, International Relations, or Education is preferred.

Historical interpretation includes utilizing hands-on/inquiry based teaching techniques using the site structures and artifacts while incorporating historical information, which depicts the culture, events and concerns of 17th- and/or 18th-century Virginia colonists, mariners, Powhatan Indians, continental soldiers and/or Revolution-era farm life in order to educate museum visitors and school groups, and to provide a high quality visitor experience.

    This is a wage position limited to 1500 hours per year (which equates to about 29 hours or less a week) with no state benefits.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Strong, effective communication skills; able to work with the general public; able to interpret with enthusiasm & have an interest in the history, culture, events and concerns of 17th and 18th century Virginia. Frequent standing. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in costume. Weekend/holiday work is required. Be able to work 24-30 hours per week as a core level employee.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior experience in costumed historical interpretation and craft skills preferred.

    About Historic London Town & Gardens:

    Historic London Town and Gardens is a twenty-three acre park featuring history, archaeology, and horticulture on the South River in Edgewater, Maryland. The park is owned by Anne Arundel County and managed by the London Town Foundation, a non-profit organization, under a formal operating agreement with the county government.  The Foundation is responsible for developing and conducting interpretive, recreational, and educational programs that allow visitors to learn about our historical, archaeological, and horticultural offerings. ​Our mission is “To inspire a deeper understanding of our region’s history, environment, culture, and arts through living history, historical artifacts, experiential public gardens, and collaborative cultural & arts programs.”

    Chief Objectives of the Position:

    Primary duties include creating a welcoming and fun environment facilitating visitors’ exploration of our gardens and historic area. During the spring and fall, Museum Educators lead school tours for the over 4,000 children who visit each year. They also work with general visitors on weekends, particularly over the summer, assist in developing and implementing special programs and activities for visitors of all ages, and may work as summer camp counselors.
