Sandy Spring Museum is a private, independently operated museum located between Washington, DC and Baltimore.
Primary Responsibilities: This position is responsible for maintaining properties owned by Sandy Spring Museum. Responsibilities include:
- Scheduling and coordinating routine maintenance by contractors: Scheduling and supervising work performed on site by contractors, and ensuring that regularly scheduled maintenance (tasks performed monthly, quarterly, and annually) occurs as required by existing contracts.
- Performing routine maintenance: Performing non-emergency upkeep of the building, the equipment, and the grounds, including but not limited to trash removal, snow shoveling, mopping and sweeping, cleaning windows, vacuuming public areas, watering landscaping, trash and branch removal from grounds.
- Performing ad hoc maintenance:Addressing immediate problems including, but not limited to, basic plumbing, electric, painting, landscaping. Candidate must provide own tools.
- Coordinating work by contractors: For work that cannot be done in-house, soliciting proposals, scheduling and supervising work performed on site by contractors.
- Emergency contact: Serving as a point of contact for emergencies; responding in-person as needed to investigate occasional emergency or potential emergency situations.
Specific systems include but are not limited to:
- Electrical
- HVAC and heat pumps
- Fire suppression
- Security system
- Carpentry & General Construction
- Plumbing
- Landscaping: mowing, seasonal clean-up, snow shoveling, clearing walkways, tree trimming, etc.
Facility: Maintain a safe and stable environment for public enjoyment. On a regular basis, walk interior and exterior of properties to identify safety and maintenance issues. Respond to emergencies in the facility, such as fire, accidents, theft, and so on as necessary. Report dangerous situations to director. Respond to maintenance requests by staff by hiring contractors and serving as the point of contact for onsite work.
Other: Work to enhance the overall mission of the museum by working collaboratively with staff and volunteers. Some work may require cooperation with volunteers, artists who rent studios on site, and working with staff.
Requirements: The ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis is required. The ability to tolerate prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis is required. A full range of motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and electrical test equipment, including climbing stairs and ladders, and to work at heights. Work is performed indoors and out-of-doors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards.
This is a half-time position of 20 hours per week. Compensation ranges between $20-23 per hour based on experience.
