SMAll Talk
SMAll Talk is a free virtual conversation series from the Small Museum Association designed to bring museum professionals together around timely topics impacting small museums. Each session begins with a brief presentation to introduce an idea, spark reflection, or provide practical context, followed by a facilitated discussion where participants can share experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another. SMAll Talk creates space for meaningful dialogue, practical takeaways, and community connection from colleagues across the field.

Thursday, September 24, 7 pm: Museum Horror Stories
We’re sharing our favorite and most frustrating museum moments that keep us up at night. From tails of red-tape and upset visitors to damaged collections and poor management (maybe even a few ghost stories) we’ll explore what we did in the moment or how we decided to let go in this community conversation.

Thursday, November 19, 7 pm: New Year, New Programs
Kristen Matulewicz, Curator of Rockwood Park & Museum and Chair of SMA’s Programs Committee will share resources and lead an interactive workshop guiding participants through a programmatic think-tank. Working together, participants will help each other develop new programs or adapt old ones for new audiences.
Thursday, January 28, 7 pm: The People You Meet in Rochester
Before coming to the annual conference, flex your networking skills, get to know other attendees, and make plans to meet up. The annual SMA conference attracts more than 200 museum professionals, board members, and volunteers from a wide variety of small museums. Our 43rd annual conference, “Museums and the Power of Place,” will be held February 21 to 24 in Rochester, NY.
