The annual SMA conference attracts hundreds of museum professionals, board members, and volunteers from a wide variety of small museums across the county. They attend sessions on topics ranging from collections and education to staffing and board issues.
This year, our theme will address the theme "Curating a Culture of Care."" While the small museum workplace of the past was one of long hours and little compensation, the last three years have inspired many of us to reevaluate what we look for in a workplace. How do we find a work-life balance and still care for the cultural and historic resources that our institutions are entrusted with and serve our communities? And how can leaders at small museums empower their employees to find time for guilt-free self-care?
As part of each conference, we offer a Resource Hall and plenty of informal networking opportunities for you to talk with (and get ideas from!) other small museum professionals and volunteers.
