Explore how three historic sites in nearby Frederick County have worked to uncover the hidden stories of their pasts and integrated those stories into their interpretation.

Sunday, February 16: African American Civil Rights Public History Trail in Prince George's County, Maryland

Explore nearby historic Laurel, Maryland, and learn how Prince George's County residents and historians are working together to support public memory of the Civil Rights Movement.

Monday, February 17: Planning for Interpretation at Black and African American Heritage Sites

Visit several of the Montgomery County sites rich in Black and African American history, and engage in a multi-site conversation about interpretation and interpretive planning within the specific context of Black and African American histories.

10:30 am to 3:30 pm, concluding at the opening reception, with return service to the conference hotel at 6:00 pm

Wednesday, February 19: Environmental Heritage and Interpretation

Visit several museums and heritage sites dedicated to interpreting the “golden age of conservation” and hear about how they are each addressing ongoing global conversations about climate change and the environment.
